Radio station Capital Chill launched in 2023 on DAB digital radio across the UK and online.
Since September 2024 the station has not been available nationally on DAB digital radio, but is still available online, on smart speakers and in the Global Player app.
Where can I listen to Capital Chill?
Capital Chill is still available on the following platforms:
- Smart speakers – ask Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri to “play Capital Chill”
- Sonos speakers – in the Sonos app add Global Player as a music source
- Global Player app – download the Global Player app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for iPhone, iPad and Android devices
- Online at https://www.globalplayer.com/live/capitalchill/uk/
- DAB digital radio in London
Although the station is no longer available nationally on DAB digital radio, it remains available in London. You may need to re-scan or auto tune your digital radio to find Capital Chill again. If you previously saved the station as a preset you can store it again.
The station broadcasts using DAB+ and a compatible radio will be required. You may find that older DAB digital radios do not find Capital Chill or that there is no audio.
Why can’t I listen on DAB any more?
During September 2024 two new national digital radio stations launched: Capital Anthems and Smooth 80s. As there is a finite space available for digital radio stations Capital Chill was removed from the UK’s second national digital radio multiplex.
The station is now available on one of London’s digital multiplexes. Around 4.9m homes in London should be within the coverage area for Capital Chill on DAB digital radio.
I can no longer receive LBC News
LBC News, which is also available on medium wave in the capital, has switched from DAB to DAB+. Some older digital radios which are not compatible with the newer DAB+ won’t be able to pick up the station.
As is the case with Capital Chill the rolling news station is also available on smart speakers and in the Global Player app. LBC News remains available as a national DAB+ radio station.
My radio doesn’t receive Absolute Classic Rock now
Absolute Classic Rock was previously available in London as a DAB digital radio station. The rock station recently launched as a DAB+ radio station nationally and will appear on compatible radios as ‘Absolute Rock St’.
The version which broadcast in London using the original DAB format has now ended.
Absolute Classic Rock can also be heard online, through smart speakers and in the Rayo app.
