Alternative music station BBC Radio 6 Music is asking listeners to vote on the best song released during the station’s ten years on air. The station launched in March 2002 as one of several new digital-only outlets from the BBC.
Staff and presenters have shortlisted 100 songs released between March 2002 and the end of 2012. A special web site has been launched where the tracks are listed, including music from Alabama Shakes, PJ Harvey, Muse, The Roots and The XX. Voting is open until 7pm on Friday, 25th January.
We started with over 2,000 tracks on our list and have gradually whittled it down to 100, losing several of our personal favourites on the way. Now we need our listeners to help decide which track should be crowned the definitive song of 6 Music’s lifetime.
Lauren Laverne, BBC Radio 6 Music presenter
The final top 100 will be counted down on Friday, 1st February. Votes can be made at the BBC Radio 6 Music website.
