Owners of PlayStation 5 consoles can now access live radio and on demand content with the BBC Sounds app.
The app can be added to the apps library and made available to launch from the home screen. Users can select the app from the All Apps section of the Media tab on the home screen.
The BBC Sounds app for the PlayStation offers access to radio, podcasts and music. Listeners will be able to find live and on demand radio from the BBC’s national and local stations as well as the BBC’s podcasts.
Music mixes curated by “experts, artists and special guests” can also be found in the app.
According to the BBC there were “a record 405 million plays of radio, music and podcasts” on BBC Sounds in the first three months of 2022.
In addition to the BBC’s national stations on DAB digital radio, the BBC Sounds app includes online-only stations like BBC Radio 1 Dance and Radio 1 Relax.
Earlier this year the BBC announced that some programmes on BBC Radio 4 and 5 live would be available on BBC Sounds for 28 days. After this period the programmes will be available on other audio platforms.
Pushpa Reddy, director of product management, BBC, says: “Record numbers of people are using BBC Sounds, and launching on PS5s makes it even easier for our listeners to enjoy brilliant live and on-demand radio, music and podcasts from the BBC. Whether it’s on a TV, smartphone, smart speaker or on the web, we want to be there wherever and whenever people want to listen.”
The BBC Sounds app is already available on Sky Q, Virgin and YouView boxes. Some smart televisions from brands including LG, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic also support the BBC Sounds TV app.
