Digital radio station Union JACK has commissioned three original comedy shows.
Starting on Monday 6th May a new day-long feature will see listeners invited to flood the station with puns on a specific British topic. Union JACK’s Pundays will be hosted by Colin Leggo, winner of one of Leicester Comedy Festival’s events, the 2019 UK Pun Championship. Listeners will be able to submit their puns through the Union JACK app.
Union JACK’s One Night Stand is being launched through a collaboration with Jericho Comedy, the Oxford comedy club known for its line-up of talented new comedians and established acts. The full line-up from the weekly Jericho Comedy Club will be broadcast every Thursday at 7pm, starting on 8th May.
Josh Berry’s Fake News will return for a second series. The programme features satirical sketches with the young comic’s impressions. Josh Berry is already known for Dead Ringers and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and the new series starts this Friday at 7pm. The first season is available as a podcast.
Speaking about the new shows, Union JACK’s Programme Manager, Giles Gear, said: “2019 will see Union JACK unleash a whole host of new comedy programmes, and these three are just the beginning. Pundays and One Night Stand showcase two huge areas of British comedy – puns and stand-up comedy. Recommissioning Josh Berry’s Fake News was also a no-brainer, as this young impressionist is destined for great things – a recent impression of his was watched by over 1 million people on Twitter and at Union JACK, we recognise and support his ambition.”
Earlier this year the digital station broadcast the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition. Union JACK launched in 2016 and has no DJs, with songs chosen by listeners through the station’s app. Almost 20 million song votes have been cast so far.
Union JACK is available on DAB digital radio across the UK, in the Union JACK app and online at unionjack.co.uk.
