LBC will stage the first broadcast debate of this year’s London Mayoral election.
With the London Mayoral election now seven weeks away the news and talk station has announced details of the debate to be held next week. The five leading candidates in the election will take part, with breakfast host Nick Ferrari hosting the hour-long debate.
Listeners to the station will be able to put questions on a range of subjects affecting Londoners to Sian Berry (Green), Zac Goldsmith (Conservative), Sadiq Khan (Labour), Caroline Pidgeon (Lib Dems) and Peter Whittle (UKIP).
James Rea, LBC’s managing editor, said: “The LBC London Mayoral debate will put our listeners centre stage and at the heart of the conversation as they question the candidates live on air. With Nick Ferrari at the helm, it will set the agenda for the 2016 Mayoral election as Londoners decide who will be the Mayor of the world’s greatest city.”
Since the post of Mayor of London was created in 2000 there have been two Mayors: Ken Livingston and Boris Johnson. This year’s election will be the first which Ken Livingston hasn’t taken part in, and Boris Johnson will not run for a third term since becoming an MP at the last general election.
LBC hosted a debate last year during the Labour leadership election, as well as a one-on-one debate between Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage in 2014.
The debate will be held on Tuesday 22nd March from 9am to 10am on LBC. The station is available on digital radio, on 97.3 FM in London and online.
