Jane Garvey and Peter Allen to reunite on BBC Radio 5 live

Two popular voices on BBC Radio 5 live are to be reunited when they begin a new Sunday evening show.

Jane Garvey and Peter Allen were both with the station when it launched in 1994 and hosted the daily 5 live Drive programme together until nine years ago.

They will take over the 7.30pm to 10pm slot every Sunday with a “wry and witty” look at the week’s news.

“Working with Peter for 5 live’s 20th anniversary reminded me of how annoying he is. And it brought home how much I’d missed working on the station I’ve never stopped listening to,” says Jane Garvey, who now hosts Women’s Hour on BBC Radio 4.

Peter Allen has been presenting a daytime programme for three days a week, but will now focus on the new programme.

Emma Barnett
Emma Barnett moves to 5 live Daily

Emma Barnett will take over 5 live Daily on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday’s having presented the 5 live Hit List on a Sunday evening. Emma can also be heard on BBC Radio 4 and until recently was the Women’s Editor of the Daily Telegraph.

The news and sport station has also announced that Nihal will take over from Dan Walker who recently joined BBC Breakfast. The Asian Network and former BBC Radio 1 DJ has been a regular on the station since covering the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

“I genuinely couldn’t be happier at being asked to present Afternoon Edition with Sarah,” explained Nihal Arthanayake.

“I love listening to 5 live and, ever since I worked on the Commonwealth Games coverage, I’ve wanted to be a fully fledged team member.”

BBC Radio 5 live is currently preparing for the Euro 2016 football championship, Olympic games in Rio and Wimbledon.

“I couldn’t be happier that we’re reuniting radio royalty,” said Jonathan Wall, Controller at BBC Radio 5 live.

“Jane Garvey and Peter Allen are two of the best broadcasters in the business and their original partnership on 5 live was the perfect radio pairing. I’m sure our listeners will love having them back together every Sunday.”
