A new radio station which only plays music by female artists has arrived on DAB digital radio.
JACK Radio launched across the UK on Wednesday at noon. The station says it provides “a platform for women in music, from the female stars of the past to today’s main artists.” The new station will also play music from emerging female talent.
From next year JACK Radio will broadcast content from women’s sports, highlighting news and major achievements. Female comedians will also feature with established acts alongside new talent.
The station will also feature its ‘Like a Version’ songs, which are well-known tracks covered by female artists. The digital radio station says it will be seeking new talent and giving female artists an opportunity to have their voices heard.
The team behind JACK Radio already operate Union JACK on digital radio and JACK fm, JACK 2 Hits and JACK 3 Chill in Oxfordshire.
A wide range of women in music will be featured on the station, from Adele to Kylie and Aretha Franklin to Dusty Springfield.
Ian Walker, co-CEO of JACK Radio, said: “For decades, music lovers have enjoyed albums with titles such as Women of Rock, Women of Pop, Women of the 80s, Women of Soul… At its core, JACK Radio is a showcase of women – firstly in music, but ultimately in comedy and sport too.”
Belinda Doyle, from the station’s programming team, added: “JACK Radio is going to offer a blend of incredible music, the likes of which have never been heard anywhere else in the world, ever before. And it just so happens that it’s going to be all women!”
JACK Radio can be found on DAB digital radio (a re-tune may be necessary), online at JACKRadio.com and through radio apps.
