The afternoon show on BBC Radio 5 live will be powered entirely by exercise bikes this Thursday as part of a special day of programmes.
The energy day programmes will look at the UK’s energy supply, and plans to fill a gap created by the closure of power stations.
“Energy Day is an innovative and unique way to look at a national news story. Radio 5 live will be bringing the debate to audiences and offering them the chance to put their questions to those that matter in the world of energy. Powering a studio purely on renewable energy is a risk for the station but will make for exciting radio nonetheless!”
Controller of Radio 5 live, Jonathan Wall
The day begins with a ‘switch on’ at 7am with Nicky Campbell and Rachel Burden. They will be joined by MPs to discuss energy policy, and the programme will react to results from a survey commissioned to gather opinions and awareness of the energy debate. Ed Davey MP will take part in Your Call from 9am.
From 12pm Shelagh Fogarty and Dominic Laurie will host a consumer panel looking at energy costs, and in 5 live Drive there will be an in-depth look at the news and politics surrounding energy.
