Russ Williams is to be the new host of Smooth Breakfast in London from Tuesday.
He will present the breakfast show from 6am to 10am every day, playing Smooth Radio’s ‘Relaxing Music Mix’. Russ will also be heard outside of London on Smooth Extra, the digital radio station available across the UK.
He joins the station on March 29th having been at Virgin Radio, and then Absolute Radio, since its launch in 1993. Russ Williams is no stranger to early mornings having hosted the breakfast show there for several years with Jono Coleman.
In 2013 Russ was inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame and has won many broadcasting awards. He’s also known for Rock’n’Roll Football, the music and football show on Absolute Radio started by Chris Evans on a Saturday afternoon. During his time at Virgin and Absolute Russ interviewed musicians including Mick Jagger, Bon Jovi and Roger Waters. He’s also written two books about football.
“I am really looking forward to waking up London on Smooth Radio and the rest of UK on Smooth Extra,” said Russ Williams.
Sam Jackson, managing editor of Smooth, said: “Russ is one of the country’s top radio presenters and I know our listeners will love him.”
Andrew Castle joined the station in 2014 as it re-launched and remains on Smooth Radio as the host of The Great American Songbook on Sunday evenings.
Smooth Radio is available in parts of the UK on digital radio, 97-108 FM, online at smoothradio.com and in the Smooth app. Smooth Extra is available on digital radio across the UK.
