Classical music radio station Scala Radio will be renamed Magic Classical this September.
The team at Magic Classical will remain the same as it is now at Scala Radio. Listeners are assured on the radio station’s website that there are no plans to change the presenter line-up or schedule. The station also says it will continue to play familiar masters and contemporary classical music.
Gary Stein, Director of Audio at Bauer Media Audio UK said: ‘As Magic Classical, Scala Radio will continue to bring its loyal listeners a playlist of familiar masters alongside contemporary classical music, whilst introducing the fantastic talent on the station to a whole new family of listeners.’
The station became the third national radio station to play classical music, alongside Classic FM and BBC Radio 3, when it began in 2019. The schedule currently includes Charles Nove, Penny Smith, Simon Mayo and YolanDa Brown.
Afternoons now feature non-stop music with slots like the ‘More Music Afternoon’ with presenter-lead programmes positioned in weekday mornings and weekends. Earlier this year presenters including Mark Kermode, Luci Holland and Richard Allinson departed with the introduction of the new schedule.
Magic Chilled to become Hits Radio Chilled
National digital radio station Magic Chilled will become Hits Radio Chilled in September 2024.
Magic Chilled plays pop and R’n’B from the 1990’s to today from artists like Ed Sheeran and Mariah Carey. When the station becomes Hits Radio Chilled it will join the Hits Radio stations across the UK and Hits Radio Pride.
Owners Bauer Media Audio UK say the line-up will remain the same.
Magic Chilled launched in 2016 as part of the original line-up of the new Sound Digital multiplex.
Both stations will be available in the new Rayo app. The new audio platform launched last month and brings together all of Bauer Media Audio UK’s radio stations, including Magic, Hits, Absolute Radio and KISS, into a single place online, on smart speakers and in the app.
