Broadcaster Simon Mayo will return to drivetime with a new show on Greatest Hits Radio.
The former BBC Radio 2 presenter joined Scala Radio for its launch in March 2019. The station says his daytime programme will come to an end after two years and he will move to a new weekend show.
Simon Mayo already presents The Album Show on Greatest Hits Radio and co-hosts Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review on BBC Radio 5 live.
Simon Mayo said “Returning to Drivetime is so very exciting for me. It’s a show I loved so much and now on Greatest Hits Radio we intend to make it even better. And with Matt Williams back on sport, we can’t wait to get started. The message of the show is the same-enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think!”
The new 4pm to 7pm drivetime programme starts on 15th March.
Greatest Hits Radio is available on DAB digital radio, FM and AM across much of the UK. It’s also available online, on smart speakers and in apps. The station, which launched in 2019 and expanded last year, plays music from the 70s, 80s and 90s from artists like Madonna, Queen, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie. Other shows on the station are hosted by Pat Sharp, Mark Goodier, Janice Long, Alex Lester and Jenny Powell.
Mark Forrest will take over the 10am slot on Scala Radio and a full new Spring schedule will be announced soon.
The current local drivetime presenters will move to earlier afternoon slots while Darren Proctor will start a new evening show from 7pm. Debbie Mac will still be heard every afternoon in London, The North West and North East. The line-up on Greatest Hits Radio South Wales is unchanged, but listeners can still hear Simon Mayo on the app and online.
