Television and radio host Matthew Wright is joining talkRADIO for a new weekday afternoon programme.
The magazine-style show will air between 1pm and 4pm, Monday to Friday, with a focus on current affairs. The new show, which starts on Monday 10 September, will feature regular guests including long-time collaborator and TV critic Kevin O’Sullivan.
Matthew Wright said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining talkRADIO at this fascinating time in history when there’s so much to discuss and debate. My new afternoon show will see me team up with Fleet Street legend, critic Kevin O’Sullivan – two real-life chums who don’t agree on anything!”
The afternoon slot is currently hosted by Jamie East, who will move to a new weekend show on Sunday afternoons.
“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Matthew Wright to talkRADIO,” said talkRADIO programme director Dennie Morris.
“In addition to his new Sunday show, which will be brilliant, we’re looking forward to hearing more from Jamie East across talkRADIO,” he added.
Matthew Wright started out in newspapers, working at The Sun and the Daily Mirror. He hosted The Wright Stuff on Channel 5 for 18 years – a slot hosted from today by BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine.
It’s the second signing announced this week from the owners of talkRADIO, talkSPORT and Virgin Radio. Host of the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, Chris Evans, will move to Virgin Radio in the new year. Jeremy Kyle returned to radio at talkRADIO last month with a new Saturday show, while former Absolute Radio presenter Russ Williams debuted on sister station talkSPORT 2 at the weekend.
The news and talk station launched in March 2016 with presenters Paul Ross, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Eamonn Holmes.
talkRADIO is available on DAB digital radio, online and via apps for iOS and Android.
