I have a Bush Classic DAB Radio. When I choose sleep mode it closes the programme I am on, but doesn’t actually shut down the radio itself.
– Horry
The sleep feature on DAB digital radios is a useful way to have the radio switch off automatically after a set amount of time.
Depending on your particular DAB radio, the date and time may be displayed all of the time in standby mode. When the radio is switched on the station name and scrolling text may be shown instead.
We don’t have a Bush digital radio to test the sleep mode, but on a digital radio which has a standby mode we found that the sleep function did switch the radio from the programme into standby. This appears to be the only way the sleep function will work.
The leather style Bush Classic DAB model does have a switch on the rear of the radio to switch the radio completely off. There does not appear to be a way to achieve this with a sleep timer.
Sleep functions on Bush Classic DAB radios
If you have the leather Bush Classic DAB model, a sleep timer can be set for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. There is also an option to turn the sleep timer off.
To set the sleep timer, press the right hand rotary control. On the screen ‘Set sleep time, Sleep off’ should be shown. Press and release the rotary control until you reach the sleep time you would like to set. After a pause the radio should use this time as the sleep timer.
To cancel the sleep timer repeat the process, but choose ‘Off’ instead of the number of minutes.
The process is slightly different on the Bush Classic DAB radio with the large dial on the front panel.
Press and release the Sleep button on the top of the radio. ‘Set sleep time, Sleep off’ should be displayed. Press and release the same button to cycle through the options, choosing the number of minutes for the sleep timer.
When you see the number of minutes you would like to use, press the Select button.
To cancel the sleep timer press and release Sleep until you see ‘Sleep off’, then press Select.
We tested the sleep function on a few DAB radios and found that most switched the radio off completely. Just one model entered the standby mode with a clock, date and slightly dimmer display.
