Weekend breakfast show host Ace will take over the 10am to 1pm morning show next month on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
Current host Trevor Nelson, who has been with the station since 2007, will be the new presenter of the 4-7pm weekend show on Saturdays and Sundays.
When Ace begins hosting the morning slot he will inherit the Live Lounge slot which has seen Ed Sheeran, A$AP Rocky, Jess Glynne and Chance The Rapper and others perform their own songs and covers.
On the weekend breakfast show Ace combined music and sport in the popular ‘In The Barber’s Chair’ feature with guests including boxer Anthony Joshua. The clips have proven popular on the station’s YouTube channel.
“It’s an absolute honour to be taking over from the broadcasting legend that is Trevor Nelson,” said the presenter.
“I’m very excited to be on 1Xtra hosting performances from some of the biggest and freshest acts on the scene in the iconic 10am-1pm home of the Live Lounge.”
Trevor Nelson first presented on Kiss in the 1980’s and went on to host shows on BBC Radio 1 and MTV. The DJ appeared in this week’s Jazzie B’s 1980s: From Dole to Soul on BBC Two, reflecting on the music and club nights of the decade.
The new Saturday show will play current RnB, while Sundays will focus on old skool RnB.
BBC Radio 1Xtra host Trevor Nelson said: “It’s been an honour to be part of 1Xtra since I started back in 2007 and I have loved every minute of the last five years watching some of the biggest performers in the 1Xtra Live Lounge. I can’t wait to start my new weekend show and continue playing the biggest tracks and making the show my own.”
Mim Shaikh will be the new host of the weekend breakfast show and Twin B will host Mondays between 10pm and 1am. DJ Target takes over from MistaJam and will continue with his Friday and Saturday shows.
